Martin Crilly was appointed South Coast British Columbia Regional Transportation Commissioner (or TransLink Commissioner) by the Mayors’ Council effective June 2008, through April 2013.
He holds an MA from the University of Cambridge, specializing in physics, and an MBA in transportation from the University of British Columbia. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in North America.
From August 2003 to April 2011 Mr. Crilly served as British Columbia Ferries Commissioner, the independent regulator under the Province’s Coastal Ferry Act, through June 2010.

From 1995 to 1999 he served as Executive Director of the International Centre for Sustainable Cities, a nonprofit, non-government charitable organization with projects in Canada, China, Poland, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. Its mission was to promote sustainable urban development around the world through practical demonstration projects, using Canadian experience and technologies.
From 1991 to 1993 Mr. Crilly was engaged jointly by the Province of British Columbia and Metro Vancouver (then called the Greater Vancouver Regional District) as Project Director of Greater Vancouver's TRANSPORT 2021 project. He and his project team produced a 30-year horizon strategic urban transport plan for the region. It was formally adopted as a component of Greater Vancouver’s Livable Region Strategic Plan.
From 1988 to 1991, he served as Vice President, Research and Development, Johnston Terminals Limited, a private company with trucking, freight forwarding, port and warehousing operations.
From 1979 to 1988 he served as senior professional, then president, of the Western Transportation Advisory Council (WESTAC), a neutral labour-business-government forum providing impartial information for the resolution of issues facing the western Canadian transportation system, in all modes of transport.
